Here is today's image!

no. With 5G in theory you could, but the first implementation will just add radio capabilities to 4G network, which is still sharing the IP. So I see little way to do it if you are using wireless.

In such a case I would go with a vultr instance, 2.5$/month.

@farseen @ColinTheMathmo @selea

if this is 4G you aren’t behind a nat, you are just behind a PDN-GATEWAY.

this implies behind a single IP there are ~250 customers.

There is no way to have a port forwarding there. Same for 5G.

ho ritrovato un vecchio hard disk, e tra le vecchie cose c’e’ un libro che doveva essere la continuazione di β€œAltri Robot”.

Ma la storia mi ha preceduto. LOL.

again: pleroma only requires a Raspi with a decent USB storage for the postgres db (personally I am using another similar board, but it changes a little) , then you get the certificate for free using LetsEncrypt, and your FQDN comes from DDNS.

That’s it.

@ColinTheMathmo @farseen my IP is also dynamic, but boseburo.ddns.net stays . I just downloaded a client and run, with cron each 15 minutes.

@ColinTheMathmo @farseen

no, you just have free DDNS systems, like no-ip. No need to pay for a FQDN.

They are DNS capable to update each 15 minutes, so if your IP changes DNS will reflect it.

There are many of them, dynamic dns are widely used….

Ha senso.

@farseen

  1. a few bucks. I run pleroma on a ARM device consuming 1.8W
  2. little. Once pleroma dockerized in a swarm, it’s fire and forget. If it was full time job this would have been β€œtraining&hackaton”. This is why I keep a swarm at home.
  3. 5 in total. And?

This is why is much better than Facebook, and any other Social network.
